State attorneys general unite against FCC. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17 2018 By Darrell Etherington

There's an organized state resistance to FCC's net neutrality nonsense, Levandowski is in deeper trouble, and IPOs are hot for 2018.

1. 22 State Attorneys General file lawsuits to block net neutrality repeal

The FCC's war on net neutrality is definitely disheartening, but there are a lot of signs that this is not such a cut-and-dried thing. Twenty-two state attorneys general have filed suit to block the repeal, for instance.

The U.S. Senate also has 50 votes against the modified rules, and only needs one more to block them – here's hoping some principled Republican crosses party lines.

2. Anthony Levandowski's former nanny files an embarrassing suit

Turns out, Anthony Levandowski is the biggest liability in terms of Silicon Valley engineering hires ever, and it just gets worse all the time.

3. IPOs could be a big thing in 2018

Tech IPOs could have a good year in 2018, with a bunch of unicorns that have had this coming for a long time now, including Dropbox, Spotify, maybe Lyft Pinterest and more.

4. YouTube tightens monetization rules

YouTube is cracking down on its monetization programs, in light of a number of big issues, including star Logan Paul posting a video with a dead body fully visible in frame.

5. Fanfic platform Wattpad raises $51 million

Fanfic is super popular, and Toronto-based Wattpad is a micro-fiction platform that has a hugely active user base. It's raised a whole bunch of new money to help it build out machine learning tech it wants to write stories autonomously. Whoa.

6. Washington needs to get serious about AI

It's time for regulators to figure out what to do about artificial intelligence, says one of Washington's own. They're typically behind on stuff, and this one they're way behind on.

7. Bitcoin dips below $10K

Bitcoin is in the toilet again, relatively speaking. Or maybe it isn't – who knows, it varies hour to hour.
