THE DAILY CRUNCH

We open today's Daily Crunch with what we know about the death of HQ Trivia's Colin Kroll. Also covered: Google's plans for New York and predictions of a long crypto winter.

1. HQ Trivia and Vine co-founder Colin Kroll found dead of suspected overdose

Kroll, the 34-year-old co-founder and CEO of the HQ Trivia app, has been found dead of an apparent drug overdose in his apartment.

In a brief statement, HQ said: "We learned today of the passing of our friend and founder, Colin Kroll, and it's with deep sadness that we say goodbye. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."

2. Google is spending $1 billion to build a massive new campus in New York

Google already has 7,000 staff located in New York, and this strategy is aimed at doubling that headcount over the next 10 years. Hudson Square will be a 1.7 million-square-foot campus that'll serve as "the primary location" for Google's Global Business Organization.

3. In the winds of crypto winter

4. Epic sheathes Infinity Blade after Fortnite fan backlash

Complaints boiled down to it being unfair for the overpowered weapon to exist in standard game modes, given the massive advantage bestowed on whoever happened to be lucky enough to find it.

5. 3D-printed heads let hackers – and cops – unlock your phone

Forbes reporter Thomas Brewster commissioned a 3D-printed model of his own head to test the face unlocking systems on a range of phones — four Android models and an iPhone X. Bad news if you're an Android user: only the iPhone X defended against the attack.

6. RightHand Robotics grabs $23 million in funding

The robotics startup has impressed investors with the dexterity and speed of its robotic picking system, having recruited some big VC names along the way.

7. Podcasts can turn a bad Monday good

This week, Equity looks at IPO plans at Uber and Lyft, while Original Content reviews the awkwardly titled Netflix movie "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle."
