Nissan's autonomous taxi service is coming. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23 2018 By Darrell Etherington

Nissan's self-driving taxis will hit roads next month, Angry Birds disappoints and Apple devices are auto dialing 911 during the refurbishment process. All that and more in The Daily Crunch for February 23, 2018.

1. Nissan will launch a self-driving taxi service next month

Nissan is launching an autonomous taxi service, in partnership with software firm DeNA, and it's going to start doing it next month. Fun!

This puts the Japanese automotive giant in good company with a range of other competitors gearing up for the debut of commercial self-driving services. Ultimately, Nissan hopes to have an actual service in place and available in time for the 2020 games.

2. Angry Birds angers investors

This is not good news for fans of this pioneering mobile game franchise: The Angry Birds maker is in the pits, thanks to really quite poor guidance on its most recent earnings, which were dismal.

3. Apple's devices flood emergency response dispatch with 911 calls

A refurbishment facility operated by Apple was sending as many as 20 emergency calls per day, which is real bad behavior. Fix this, Apple, as it is bad.

4. Airbnb has a new premium tier

Airbnb is going above and beyond for its guest and host customers with "Beyond by Airbnb." It's basically a luxe option, designed to compete with luxury resorts.

5. This space startup is using catapults

Launching things using centrifugal force instead of riding giant explosions is a known concept that's been around for a while. Now a startup wants to see if it can make a business out of the idea.

6. Google Assistant is going multilingual

Well it sort of is already, but with a forthcoming update it'll be able to identify which language a user is speaking automatically and switch to providing results in the same tongue.

7. Roku has a reckoning

Being a public company is tough, and Roku is learning that right now, as discussed on this week's Equity podcast.
